What are the significance of Pentecost for Christians?
Christ had promised the Apostles”I will send you the Holy Spirit”. After Jesus had left them, the Apostles were afraid. So they hid themselves in the little apartment of Mary. They prayed and waited for nine days. This was the first Novena. Then on Pentecost, over their heads, the Apostles saw parted tongues of fire. A tongue settled on each of their heads. The Holy Spirit had come. At once, they went out and began to tell everyone about Jesus. They spoke so strongly that thousands believed and were baptised. This was the birthday of the Catholic Church. So she can fulfill her mission, the Holy Spirit bestows upon the Church varied hierarchic and charismatic gifts, and in this way directs her. Henceforth the Church endowed with the gifts of her founder and faithfully observing his precepts of charity, humility and self-denial, receives the mission of proclaiming and establishing among all people the Kingdom of Christ and of God, and she is on earth the seed and the beginning of that ki
