What are the side effects of Zyrtec-D?

0

• A: Zyrtec-D is a combination tablet of an antihistamine (Zyrtec) and a decongestant (pseudoephedrine). Antihistamines help with sneezing, runny noses and drainage. Decongestants help relieve pressure and pain in the sinuses. Zyrtec or the antihistamine portion has a potential to cause some drowsiness and dry mouth. Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) can cause difficulty sleeping, nausea, and loss of appetite. Individuals with high blood pressure or heart disease should not take anything with decongestants because it can raise blood pressure and heart rate. Zyrtec-D should be taken with a full glass of water either with or without food. Zyrtec-D can be taken every 12 hours and no more than 2 tablets in 24 hours. For information on allergies visit Everyday Health at the link http://everydayhealth.com/HealthAZ/Index.aspx and for information on Zyrtec visit http://everydayhealth.com/drugs/ Kimberly Hotz, PharmD.
