What are the side effects of the medication prescribed for HIV and AIDS?
All medication has side effects, but not everyone will experience them. The most common side effects of ARV drugs (medicines) are nausea and vomiting. The various drugs exhibit different side effects, some short term and some long term. It is important discuss them with your doctor and be aware of them. Most side effects are temporary and subside within a few weeks. If the side effects persist for longer than two weeks, worsen, or are severe and unbearable, such us yellow eyes or hallucinations, you need to contact your clinic or doctor. It is important to do this as most of the side effects can be managed. For example, medication can be prescribed for nausea or headaches. Your doctor might also change your ARVs. It is critical that you continue taking your ARVs, even if side effects occur.
