What Are the Side Effects of Sodium Pentothal?
Sodium pentothal or thiopental sodium is a barbiturate known from spy genre films as the “truth serum.” First injected in humans in 1934, it is used to cause drowsiness before surgery or other medical procedures. According to RxList, it may be the sole anesthetic used in procedures of 15 minutes or less. Also, this drug may be used as a treatment to stop seizure activity, because pentothal is a central nervous system depressant. Caution should be used with this substance, because side effects are possible, and high doses can be lethal.
