Urgent FDA Byetta Pancreatitis Update: As of 8/18/2008, the FDA has reviewed 30 postmarketing reports of acute pancreatitis in patients taking Byetta. Of the most recent 6 cases of hemorrhagic or necrotizing pancreatitis, all patients required hospitalization, two patients died and four patients were recovering at time of reporting. The following paragraphs are the side effects of Byetta as listed on the Patient Information Sheet provided my the manufacturer: When BYETTA is used with a medicine that contains a sulfonylurea, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can occur. The dose of your sulfonylurea medicine may need to be reduced while you use BYETTA. The signs and symptoms of low blood sugar may include headache, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, confusion, irritability, hunger, fast heartbeat, sweating, and feeling jittery. Your healthcare provider should tell you how to treat low blood sugar. The most common side effects with BYETTA include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache
