Meningitis is a severe life threatening infection of the brain and the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Bacterial meningitis is a contagious disease that is more commonly seen in infants, those with a weakened immune system, and teenagers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of every 10 people who get the disease dies from it, and many others are affected for life; which is why preventing the disease through use of a vaccine is important.
