What are the seven steps of Transcendental Meditation (TM)?
The seven steps to learning TM appear to be paying to take seven classes – which will cost you $2500 in cold hard cash. Well, okay, I’m exaggerating. They will also let you pay it off at $50/month over the course of six years, but that brings your price tag to $3600. The basic techniques are loosely based on Yoga, but TM is frequently characterized as a cult. Partly because they deny any religious affiliation despite obviously ganking Hindu deities, concepts, practices and holidays. But also because of the ridiculous price tag. Additionally, so many people who’ve been through the program feel as though they’ve been brainwashed or bilked out of their money. TM also claims to have scientific evidence to validate their “religion which isn’t a religion” – although most of this “evidence” has been thoroughly debunked as pseudoscience.
