referring to denominations, even prophetically. Yet, in what Christ says to each congregation there may be application to different denominations. These are probably chosen because in them a wide variety of local congregations can be represented. The number 7 is used throughout the Book of Revelation symbolically, for the number of perfection and completion. The fact Christ chooses seven churches with widely varying characteristics seems to indicate Christ choose these as representative churches and what He says to these, applies to all. That being said, are there things said to these churches that could apply to denominations? I think there could be. Ephesus is strong in doctrine and discipline but losing in heart / emotion for Christ. I am myself part of the Presbyterian Church in America.
