What are the serious complications of Acute Pancreatitis?
Severe pancreatitis occurs in about 1 in 5 patients. These patients can develop breathing difficulty, high fever, bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract, kidney failure and necrosis of the pancreas, with severe infection in the abdomen. These patients may need surgery, ventilatory support and even dialysis. Severe pancreatitis requires admission in the ICU with close monitoring.
