What are the SAT Subject Exams and do I need to take them?

Most students now also take SAT Subject exams in addition to the SAT 1. Subject tests are typically taken in May or June of the junior year and in the Fall of the senior year (as needed.) Most students take three exams: one math (preferably math level 2), and two electives (Literature, US History, World History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a foreign language.) Most colleges will take the highest two scores of the three tests, however some schools take one math score and the higher score between the remaining two subjects, while some other schools take all three scores. SAT math level 1 is adequate for some colleges, but the UC system does not honor it — they require math level 2.
