WHAT ARE THE RULES REGARDING MINORS?
Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) wishing to visit a prisoner at the Maine Correctional Center must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other person with legal authority to make decisions for the minor. The only exception to this rule is for an emancipated minor. A person convicted of or otherwise known to have committed a sex offense against a minor is prohibited from visiting with the victim(s) of the offense while the victim is a minor, if the visit is known to the Department of Corrections. An exception may be made when such visits are part of a family reunification effort by the Department of Corrections, Department of Human Services, or other State recognized social service agency. No exception is to be made if it is contrary to a condition of probation or other court order known to the Department.
