In order to get a Settlement Permit, which entitles you to live in Norway for life (with certain restrictions) you must have lived in Norway for three years with a qualified type of Residence Permit (this would not include studying). The most common ways of getting this qualified residence permit in Norway are through marriage (or having a life partnership relationship), working with a work permit, and having Norwegian parents.
