What are the rules on firing a shotgun or air gun pellet over the boundary?
Legal DAVID FROST says: It is now a criminal offence to fire an air gun pellet beyond the boundary of your premises unless you have the permission of the person over whose land it is travelling. Hit the pigeon perched in a tree in your garden and it is legal, miss and you may be breaking the law. Fire shotgun pellets over the boundary and you commit the civil offence of trespass. You could in theory be taken to court for this, but the chance of a successful case being brought unless you cause serious damage is small. Nonetheless it is bad manners to allow pellets to cross the boundary and you should avoid doing so. The patter of spent shot falling on someone’s roof does no good for the image of shooting, irrespective of the legal position.
