What are the rules of the road in Thailand?

0

The first thing you have to realise before you start driving in Thailand is that the conventional western concept of rules of the road or the Highway Code as it is called in England does not exist here. There may well be some basic concepts written down somewhere (probably copied from another country) but it is certainly not distributed or adhered to. Cars, buses, pick-ups and motorbikes all fight for their space on the road and take the shortest path from A to B regardless of who else is around. There is no acknowledgement or respect for other road users and worse still pedestrians. Pedestrian crossings are present but ignored and if you stop to let someone cross, they may well be run over by the car in the next lane as it will certainly not stop so be aware.
