Rule #1 – There are no rules. Rule #2 – There are no rules other than Rule #1. There are certainly recommendations on how to use effects, but there are no hard and fast rules. Many people have gotten interesting sounds by using effects in a way that they were not intended. Experiment, and if you like it, use it.
