What are the rules and regulations regarding termination of the physician-patient relationship?
No Kansas statute or regulation exists specifically in regard to terminating the physician-patient relationship. In accordance with the American Medical Association’s guidelines, the practitioner may wish to: (1) provide the patient with reasonable notice of termination, such as 30 days, to allow the patient to seek another provider; (2) provide only emergency services for that 30-day time period; and (3) provide the patient’s treatment records to the new provider.
