What Are The Royal Docklands?

0

It is set of three docks located in the east of London that have been attributed with the name the Royal docks or docklands. The three docks are the Royal Albert Dock, the Royal Victoria Dock and the King George V Dock and these three docks together form the largest enclosed docks in the world encompassing the water area of approximately two hundred and fifty acres. The docks have a history that is more than a century old as they were built between the year 1880 and 1921 on marshes located in the London borough of Newham. The construction of these docks are considered as of extreme importance as the large vessels that were to visit the area could not be accommodated any further. The docks proved their worth in very quick time after the construction they were the principal docks of London during the first half of the 20th century. After the World War II, due to heavy bombing, the worth of these docks started declining and finally they were closed in the year 1981.
