What are the roles of SEBI and Stock Exchanges?
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is the main regulatory body in the Indian capital market scenario. SEBI is responsible for protecting the interests of investors in securities and promoting and regulating the securities markets. Stock Exchange is a market place, where trading in listed securities happens. In India, there are two leading stock exchanges; National Stock Exchange Ltd. (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange Ltd. (BSE), wherein the lion’s share of the securities trading occur.
