The RN’s assessment, in consultation with the individual’s responsible adult (CRA), as defined in BON rule 22 TAC §225.4, or legally authorized representative (LAR), determines whether delegation is or is not needed. In relation to the self administration of medication, the LVN can complete the Self-Administration of Medication (SAM) focused assessment, but the RN must, in consultation with the individual, CRA or LAR, determine and document a delegation decision. HCS principle §9.174 (44) (G) and TxHmL principle §9.579 (l) refer to RN delegation.
