These issues are addressed here. At the global level, the author introduces an analytical framework and reviews what we currently know about world food security. Specific issues regarding food security, climate change and development are then addressed in four country studies, for Zimbabwe, Kenya, Senegal, and Chile. Additional work is under way in Egypt. Detailed results of each country study will be reported in separate documents. This research report has been compiled in advance of the detailed reports to be disseminated at the U.N. Conference on Environment and Development, the International Geographical Congress, and other international forums. Dr. Thomas E. Downing is a Programme Leader at the ECU. His research focuses on climate change and food security in developing countries.
