What are the restrictions with regard to kitchen waste on landfill sites?
Matthew Smith – Kitchen waste is pure and should not be sent to landfill. Panel – Packaging is the main problem when we look to tackle the issue of zero waste, are any steps being made to address this? Simon Richards – A framework in attempting to minimise packaging is being sought. Panel – A commitment to enable to spend was mentioned earlier, could you explain that a little further? Angus Cunningham – Substantial contract commitments of around 6 – 10 years would be ideal, this then gives an opportunity for investment to be made. Panel – How do you feel about any charges directed towards business waste? Simon Richards – I don’t think collections should be free, I think businesses need to be made aware of the cost implications. Panel – Could you tell us a little more about the work Envolve is doing towards a strategy for multiple occupancy homes?
