EPA convened a group of stakeholders (i.e., states, electronics manufacturers, electronics recyclers, trade associations and public interest groups) to develop the Responsible Recycling Practices for Electronics Recyclers (R2). The R2 practices are raising the bar for the electronics recycling industry by protecting public health and the environment, improving worker safety practices and reducing potential exposures through implementing good recycling practices both domestically and internationally. R2 identifies specific recycling principles and practices for recyclers to follow including: using an environmental, health and safety management system; promoting reuse and material recovery; minimizing exposures or emissions during recycling operations; and conducting due diligence throughout the recycling chain.
