What are the responsibilities of the APPE Preceptor or Rotation Coordinator?
• To provide the student with a thorough orientation to the rotation which includes: a review of pertinent policies and procedures including those required for HIPAA compliance, introductions to appropriate staff, a tour of the facility, a determination of the student’s attendance schedule, and a description of the preceptor’s philosophy of practice. • To review the student’s portfolio at the beginning of each rotation to gain insights into past achievements and to optimize the student’s rotation schedule and experiences. • To assign the student to tasks (responsibilities) consistent with the rotation objectives and which optimize the value of the rotation for the particular student, and to provide appropriate explanation and demonstration of the tasks. • To provide supervision of the student’s activities and monitor achievement of required tasks to assess related student competencies. • To provide the student with a mid-point performance evaluation (forms provided) during the third we
