What are the responsibilities of a document review professional during an electronic document review?
During an electronic document review, the client provides reviewers with directions and criteria for evaluating the data. Reviewers carefully read each document using the review tool and consider how it fits the various specifications. Next, the reviewers choose from a list of subject matters and categories and check all that apply. This exercise is commonly referred to as coding. Sometimes an electronic document review also involves determining if a document contains potentially privileged information and if so, which legal privilege applies. During the later stages of an electronic document review, some reviewers may be selected to perform a quality control check on previously reviewed documents to ensure the coding was done correctly and consistently. These reviewers might also be asked to help compile a privilege log, which contains a non-privileged description of the potentially privileged documents.
