What are the Residence Halls like?
VUU offers residence halls that house just men, just women, and both men and women. Most halls are historic campus structures with interesting and unique characteristics, though some are more modern. All residence halls are within easy walking distance of each other. All rooms are doubles with baths shared by other members of that floor. Each room is furnished with beds, dressers, closets, and desks.
There are four co-ed residence halls in which all first year students live. Each of them is a traditional style residence hall with two students per room and a community bathroom in each hallway. Sophomores and above have a few different options. They may live in the suite-style South Complex (two double rooms joined by a bathroom) or Wright Hall, our new environmentally-friendly, apartment-style residence hall. The rooms in Wright Hall feature bedrooms for four students, a kitchenette, a living room and a bathroom. Finally, Alma College owns fourteen houses in which students may live, depending on their involvement in a fraternity, sorority or other student organization. More information on Alma’s residence halls is available here.
At Carnegie Mellon there is a variety of housing options available through our 20 different residential communities. As a Sleeping Bag Weekend guest, you may have the opportunity to stay in any number of these residence halls. Further information and virtual tours of our residence halls can be found on our Housing Facilities Web site.
Plattsburgh State has 12 coed, non-smoking residence halls. We offer three dorm styles, including high-rise corridor, low-rise corridor, and high-rise suites. All residence hall floors have at least one Resident Assistant (R.A.), usually a junior or senior at Plattsburgh, who plans floor and dorm programming and who handles any problems or concerns that might arise in the hall. Each hall also has a Hall Council (much like Student Council in high school) where students run for office and plan hall trips to amusement parks, ski resorts, and professional sporting events. Plattsburgh even offers a Substance Free Residence Hall for students who are interested in a healthy, substance-free lifestyle and who want to live with other students who think similarly.
