What Are the Requirements to Wear the Army Black Beret?
For a long time, the black beret was a symbol of excellence in the United States Army, issued almost exclusively to Airborne and Special Forces personnel. However, on June 14th, 2001 the United States Army officially changed policy so that the black beret became the de facto headpiece for soldiers in the US Army. But that does not mean there aren’t requirements to wear it. Military Enlistment The first and most obvious requirement for wearing the black beret is to signify completion of basic combat training. While every training battalion is different, the standard operating procedure is that recruits who are still in training are prohibited from wearing the beret, apart from shaping it for presentation at their graduation ceremonies or, in some cases, company inspection.
