What are the requirements to obtain a New York state CDL?
In order to obtain a CDL from the state of New York, you must confirm that you have not held a drivers license from any other state besides New York within the past ten years. If you have, you will be required to report which state(s) you held valid licenses from within the last ten years. Holding a valid CDL from another state may make you eligible to obtain one in New York, but you will be required to surrender it. Drivers are also required to have a medical exam completed every two years. Upon applying for a New York CDL, you will be required to present a current, valid medical examiners certificate. If you do not have one, you must get one from a licensed medical examiner. Certificates are valid for exactly two years.
