A Senator must: • be a US citizen for at least nine years when elected to the Senate. • be at least 30 years of age. • be a resident of the state that the Senator represents. Obviously, these are just the legal requirements. Typically, a US Senator has had previous policial experience before being elected though this is definitely not a requirement.
