Licensed attorneys (inactive license is acceptable), however, can apply for Challenge Status based upon their professional credentials and exempt the requirement of completing a CFP Board-Registered Education Program. Attorneys must pass the CFP Certification Examination; a challenging 10-hour exam divided into three separate sessions. The exam is administered three times per year – generally on the third Friday and Saturday of March, July and November – at about 50 domestic locations.
