What are the requirements to be a foster and/or adoptive parent with Lilliput?
There are several requirements mandated by state regulations which are intended to ensure that a child will be in a safe and healthy environment. Foster/adoptive parents will be asked to show: • that there is adequate income in the home to meet the family’s needs, • stable housing, • adequate bed space (no more than 2 children of the same gender to a bedroom and each must have his or her own bed), • and that their physical and mental health will allow them to properly care for a child. The State also requires a criminal background and child abuse registry check for each applicant. The orientation meeting will go over the process and requirements in more detail. Lilliput is primarily concerned that children are placed in safe and nurturing environments where their developmental, physical and emotional needs will be met. You do not have to be married or own a home to adopt. It is important that partners are equally committed to becoming foster and/or adoptive parents and that the couple
