There are several requirements mandated by state regulations which are intended to ensure that a child will be in a safe and healthy environment. Foster/adoptive parents will be asked to show: • that there is adequate income in the home to meet the family’s needs, • stable housing, • adequate bed space (no more than 2 children of the same gender to a bedroom and each must have his or her own bed), • and that their physical and mental health will allow them to properly care for a child. The State also requires a criminal background and child abuse registry check for each applicant. The orientation meeting will go over the process and requirements in more detail.
