What are the requirements for the home care aide certification?
• Seventy-five hours of training. The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) must approve training curriculum and programs. Please see the Department of Social and Health Services Web site for more information. • Successful completion of the certification exam administered or approved by the DOH. • An application submitted with, required documentation and fee for certification directly to the DOH. The fee for certification is $60. • Beginning January 1, 2012, submit to a state and fingerprint-based federal background check through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS.) DSHS will share background checks with the DOH.. The DOH will review background checks to decide whether the credential should be issued. NOTE: Although DSHS state and federal background checks will not be required until 2012, facilities and agencies will still be required to perform currently required background checks in 2011.
