What are the requirements for Oxy bottles?
Advice pertaining to gas storage is included in the Chemical Safety in Schools package Vol 2. (Curriculum Support Documents – Section 3) in sections 3.3.2.3 and 3.3.4.2 (j). Safety information on gas storage is available on the BOC website at: https://boc.com.au/boc_sp/au/downloads/gas_brochures/BOC_Guidelines_for_Gas_Cylinder_Safety.pdf In general the DET recommendations would be as follows: 1. Minimal/No storage of spare bottles (Oxy/Acet/LPG supplies are readily available at short notice). 2. Oxy/Acet sets to be trolley mounted, with storage in a secure well ventilated location. Bottle valves to be closed at the end of each use following correct shutdown process. 3. More recently built schools will have a defined gas storage cage. This is most suited to storage of LPG. 4. Storage of any additional Oxy/Acet bottles should conform to BOC requirements.
