What are the requirements for naturalization?
You must be at least 18 years old. You must meet the continuous residency and physical presence requirements, which generally require you to have been a lawful permanent resident in the US for the last 5 years and physically present in the US for the last 30 months. You must meet the requirements for good moral character. Criminal convictions can impede or bar your application. You also must demonstrate an understanding of US history and government and be able to read, write and speak English. You have to show your attachment to the US Constitution by taking an oath to uphold and defend the laws of the United States and swear off any other foreign allegiances.
