If you honestly plan to use a trademark in the future, you can reserve the use of the trademark by filing an intent to use trademark application. You must actually use the trademark in interstate commerce before a federal registration will issue. It is possible, however, to postpone the filing of the proof of use after the application has been approved by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
