What are the Requirements for Elementary Education?
The student prepares for an elementary teaching certificate by acquiring a minimum of 18 semester hours middle school endorsement in language arts, social sciences, chemistry, biology, physics or mathematics, in addition to professional coursework. A strong instructional foundation is laid by providing opportunities in the following areas: • Preclinicals: experiences which involve observing and teaching under a professional teacher in an off-campus classroom setting. • Micro-teaching: an opportunity to participate in and evaluate various teaching activities. • Student teaching: a full semester of teaching under professional guidance. How Does the Program Work? In order to be certified through Benedictine University, students complete requirements of the University and the State Board of Education.
