What are the requirements for billing DMC for collateral services?
A collateral service must be provided to, or with, a significant person in the life of the client. A significant person is an individual that has a personal, not official or professional, relationship with the client. The service must be a face-to-face session provided at the certified site with or without the client’s participation. Collateral services must be documented on the treatment plan in accord with short/long-term goals. Progress notes must specifically reflect action steps taken to meet the goals outlined in the treatment plan.
