What are the requirements for admission?
There are both college and department requirements for admission to the program. Admission packets are available through the Office of Graduate Studies. SBL and SDL Strand: For teacher certified individuals, a master’s degree and permanent or professional teaching certificate are additionally required for admission. SDBL Strand: Students who are not certified to teach in New York State are additionally required to have a master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education recognized by SUNY Cortland. This program of study is the only option for those students with a non-education background.
Admission to the Drake MPA program is a straight forward process. Needed is a completed application (with $25.00 application fee), all previous college transcripts, plus two letters of recommendation and a current resume. To apply for admission to our Master’s program you should hold a BA degree (or the equivalent). In addition to the required forms, you should submit three academic letters of recommendation, one original academic transcript from each school you have previously attended, a statement of purpose, a writing sample, results from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and, for international students, results from the TOEFL* or TOEFLC* (Test of English as a Foreign Language).
