What are the requirements for a border crossing?
U.S.-Canada border security has gotten tighter in recent years. To enter Canada, you must present a valid passport, a NEXUS card or a U.S. passport card. Children 15 and under may cross with either a passport or a certified copy of their birth certificate; adults with them must show legal proof of custody or written permission from the parents. In addition, anyone who has been convicted or a crime or misdemeanor may not be permitted to enter Canada. This includes drunk-driving convictions. It is strongly suggested that anyone with a criminal record who wishes to visit Canada contact their nearest Canadian embassy. If you need to bring prescription medication along for your visit, all medications should be in their original prescription containers.
