What are the required groups for determining AYP?
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires that Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) be determined based on the student groups as well as the school as a whole. NCLB specifies that the student groups should be based on the characteristics of the major racial/ethnic groups within the state, the English proficiency, disability, and the economic status of students. Georgias AYP plan identifies the following groups: ALL students, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, Hispanic, Multiracial, Native American/Alaskan Native and Limited English Proficient (LEP), students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged (students eligible for free or reduced lunch).
