What are the repercussions if an instructor decides not to implement changes?
At an SPD presentation in August 2005, PJC instructors were invited to be a part of the development of the learning outcomes and the revision of district syllabi. Those who chose not to participate made that choice freely. All of the general education courses in the A.A. program, however, now have revised syllabi reflecting learning outcomes, chosen by the instructors who did participate in the process. These revised syllabi have passed the Curriculum Committee and take effect in fall 2006. As I understand it, instructors agree to teach the content of the district syllabi. If a department chose to revise course district syllabus to reflect a specific outcome, then that outcome should be reflected in class content. Someone in the department determined that the outcome was important for the course. These choices were not made by administration or committee.
