What are the remaining key steps that Sun and the OpenJDK community are planning to take to continue progress in meeting the goals of the initiative?
While we’ve made tremendous progress there is much left to do. Here is a partial list of some of the projects and milestones planned for the OpenJDK community. Our goal is to get these done in the next year, but we aren’t able to guarantee that all of this will happen in that timeframe without help from people outside of Sun. Sun is committed to continued rapid advances for the OpenJDK initiative. • Clearing the few remaining encumbrances • Drafting and ratifying a community Constitution • Electing a Governance Board • Improving bug tracking and reporting • Making tools and processes within Sun external and transparent • Open-source additional tools, deployment code, and other useful components • Additional collaboration for test development and use All of these proposed projects and efforts will be prioritized based on community input and available resources.
