What are the religions in the Honduras?
Honduras, like all countries of Latin America, is a mostly Christian nation – the vast majority of its inhabitants claiming to be Roman Catholic. However, a significant portion of them are what are called “nominal” Christians, indicating that their commitment to their faith doesn’t extend much past the title of being “Catholic”. There are, of course, others who are very active within the Roman Catholic system, as well as a growing number of influential protestant groups including those of the pentecostal flavor. Nominalism, within protestantism is less of a factor than within Catholicism. In addition, there are vestiges of pre-Columbian religions (Maya, Olmec, etc.). In some places these “folk” religions have been fused with Christian concepts in what is refered to as “Syncretism”.
