What are the regulations about anaphylaxis and first aid training?
Each family day carer engaged by a family day care service must complete first aid training and anaphylaxis training that is approved by the Secretary by 1 January 2012, with three-yearly updates thereafter (regulation 64). Regulation 122(1) provides that prior to 1 January 2012 at least one family day carer on duty must have first aid training. In effect, though, this means that all family day carers need to have completed first aid training as they will not have other carers on duty with them. All family day carers are required to complete practice in the administration of an auto-injection device at least every 12 months (at least quarterly is recommended). Once full first aid training has been completed, annual updates in the use of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation are also required. If a child diagnosed at risk of anaphylaxis is being cared for or educated by a family day care service, the family day carer caring for that child must have anaphylaxis management training (regulation 6
