What are the recommended criteria for a competitive SBIRT Collaborative application?
Due to the high level of interest in our program, we predict candidates with prior experience across the spectrum of health care (i.e. EMT training/certification, internships/practicums, & volunteering) and the willingness to commit to more than our required minimum one year of service will be best positioned to compete for future vacancies. As a certifed national standard for health care support, persons with Emergency Medical Technician training will always be our first preference for SBIRT candidates and student screeners are prioritized for placement because of their unique peer intervention capability with high school and college-aged patients who demographically are at significantly increased risk for substance abuse and dependency. If you’re interested in becoming an Emergency Medical Technician, we recommend contacting Boston College Eagle EMS and similar local organizations such as Boston University’s Emergency Medical Services to inquire about their EMT training curricula.
