What are the recommendations for vaccination of adolescents and adults against meningococcal disease?
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that all children aged 11 or 12 should be vaccinated with a meningococcal conjugate vaccine that protects against 4 meningococcal serogroups (A, C, W-135, and Y). Teenagers (aged 13 to 18 years) should be vaccinated if they haven’t been already.2 Additionally, individuals aged 19 to 55 years who are at increased risk for meningococcal disease should be immunized with quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine, including college freshmen living in dormitories, microbiologists routinely exposed to N.
