What are the recommendations for getting a Hondas transmission flushed or changed?
I have had no problems with the transmission, I just like to keep up on regular maintenance. The Honda is a 1997 with 130K miles. I’ve heard that flushing the transmission fluid can cause more problems than just leaving it alone. A: Do not flush a Honda transmission. simply drain and refill. According to the owner’s manual [page 164] for a 1997 Accord, the automatic transmission should be drained and refilled at 90,000 miles. Less than half or the fluid actually comes out when you drain it so you need to do 3 or 4 consecutive drain and refills to get most of the old fluid out with a short drive between each one. This is shy some owner’s and dealers simply recommend a drain and refill every 30,000 miles.
