Effective July 1, 2009, amendments to Regulation 613 (Seat Belt Assemblies) will: • Permit the use of alternative types of restraints (e.g., car beds) for children with special needs (e.g., underweight, premature infants); • Permit the use of integrated or built-in child car seats or booster seats; • Remove the exemption for rented/leased vehicles; • Remove exemptions for infants and toddlers traveling in a vehicle registered in another jurisdiciton; and • Reduce the booster seat exemption period from 60 to 30 days for vehicles registered in another jurisdiction, with complete removal in five years (expires on July 1, 2014).
