Don’t listen to 90 percent of the people above me, they make the United States look like a bunch of idiots that can’t even understand a monumental ruling, because they are too caught up in their own beliefs. The question at issue in Roe v Wade was whether or not the woman in question had the constitutional right to terminate her pregnancy. it was ruled that she did, but the ruling was NOT absolute. The right of privacy under the 14th amendment was considered broad enough to give the woman rights to terminate or continue her pregnancy. However, the state can regulate if there is a “compelling state interest”. The word “person” used in the 14th amendment of the Constitution was determined NOT to represent unborn fetuses, because the fetus could not stand alone without its mother and therefore could not interfere with the liberty of the mother.
