What Are the Reasons the Cold War Started?
” In the time immediately before the Cold War, World War II was drawing to a close. As part of the defeat of Germany, the Allied forces divided up Berlin amongst themselves. American, Russian, Great Britain and France were each vested with the responsibility for governing a part of the city. Soon the American, British and French zones merged into one zone and a democratic government was established in West Germany. The Russians kept a tighter control over their zone and limited the number of citizens that could pass freely between the two zones. Essentially, they allowed only those that worked on one side and lived on the other to pass. Within a short amount of time, the Russians tightened control and established a barrier between the two zones preventing any of the East German residents from emigrating to the West. In place of barricades and barbed wire, a tall concrete wall was constructed isolating the East from the West. This was the Berlin Wall. The “Iron Curtain” had been put in
