What are the reasons 4 the extinction of languages?
The extinction of language has a lot to do with the extinction of culture. Two good examples in the United States are slavery and the Native American people. When you displace people, sometimes entire nations, from their homes, their land, their families, it is very hard to maintain the integrity of the culture and language. In order to survive and assimilate into the dominant culture, the native language and customs are often greatly diminished and sometimes lost completely.
